Although the goals remain the same, interesting innovations in techniques and technologies contributed to the latest advancement in rhinoplasty surgery.
Like beauty in general, there is no strict definition or metrics for the ideal nose. I always tell my patients that the ideal nose is the one that is not noticed, where the gaze goes straight to the eyes without disturbance. Having said that, and in order to create a nose that merges well with person´s rest of the face, several variables should be taken into consideration; Personal anatomy, ethnicity, gender and of course preference. The final objective is not only the creation of beautiful nose, but one that also function properly as this can significantly affect the quality of life and health.
Some of the technical details that improved recovery after rhinoplasty surgery and final outcomes include:
This medication significantly reduced the incidence of bruising after the surgery and minimized blood loss during the procedure.
Nasal packing or splints used to cause most of the discomfort after rhinoplasty. Nowadays these splints are not used and replaced with sutures inside the nose.
This is the use of ultrasonic energy to divide and remodel the bones. In properly selected patients, it can reduce post-operative bruising.
With improved understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the nose, and of course experience, the experienced surgeon can control not only the 3 dimensional results of the rhinoplasty, but also how this result will change with time.
