Skin lesion removal approaches

Laser Resurfacing

Some lesions respond well to a non-surgical treatment known as laser resurfacing. This treatment delivers laser energy into the dermal layers, removing imperfections without traumatizing surrounding skin and tissue. The procedure is quick and without any anesthesia or downtime.

Surgical Excision

Excision can also be used to remove these lesions, and our top-class surgeons employ techniques to minimize scarring and produce an excellent cosmetic result in the process. Surgery is usually performed using local anesthetic and patients are often able to return to their daily routine right away.

Mohs Surgery

If cancer has been diagnosed or suspected, we will recommend a technique known as Mohs surgery to remove the lesion. This procedure removes very fine layers at a time, checking each sample under a microscope to see if cancer cells are present. Once a layer is discovered without any cancer cells, the excision is carefully closed, and the procedure is over. Like other methods of surgical excision, Mohs surgery is performed using a local anesthetic and usually does not require any downtime.

The Recovery Process

You will usually be able to return to regular activities immediately after lesion removal. You can shower in 24 hours, however, do not soak any incisions for several weeks. If you have had a lesion removed from your face, it may be helpful to sleep using some extra pillows as this will help to reduce swelling and bruising. You should not apply make-up to the operation site for a couple of weeks, too.
