Chin Augmentation

Overview

A well-balanced chin to create a pleasing natural profile and enhanced facial beauty.

When it comes to facial enhancement, your chin may not be the first feature you consider, but correction of the chin can have a profound impact on the rest of your appearance. A recessed chin creates a facial profile that is disproportionate, resulting in a weak jawline, an overly prominent nose or other imbalances. By creating additional definition in the bottom portion of the face, we can produce a contour that is in harmony with the rest of your features.
Chin augmentation, or chin enlargement, is a common low-risk aesthetic surgery procedure, employed to increase the size and prominence of the chin. It helps build a well-defined and proportional jawline for a more pleasing aesthetic result.

Are You a Candidate for a chin augmentation?

Chin enhancement surgery adds definition to the jaw and balances your facial features. You are a good candidate if you have one or more of the following concerns:
  • Recessed chin
  • Jowls and undefined neck
  • A pointed or squared chin
  • A smaller chin that makes your nose or other features more prominent
  • Lack of definition in the lower face
The nose and chin are the features that set off the entire contour of the lower face, and when they are out of balance, the whole face may look out of proportion. Correcting both features may be necessary to produce the best results in your facial enhancement.

Chin Augmentation approaches

Fat Transfer

For minor corrections fat transfer procedure is recommended. This involves the removal of unwanted fat cells from other areas of the body and injecting them into the chin to strengthen a weak profile. The fat transfer procedure has natural and permanent results.

Synthetic Implants

The chin implants procedure is a fast low-risk procedure, performed under local or general anesthesia. Synthetic implants are available for chin augmentation and come in a range of sizes and shapes to fit every facial profile. The implants are placed behind the chin muscles to create size and definition. They can last for many years and most patients enjoy their new facial profile permanently. The incision for the implant procedure is made inside the mouth to eliminate visible scarring after your surgery.

Sliding Genioplasty

After the consultation with IMAGN INSTITUTE experts, a jawbone repositioning might be recommended. This procedure offers some benefits over implants as it avoids the insertion of synthetic devices and thus, reduces the risk of complications. This advanced surgical technique puts a cut through the bone to reposition the jawbone and build a more attractive facial contour. Incisions for this procedure are also inside the mouth, or, in some cases, underneath the chin, making them invisible once healed.

The Recovery Process

Some degree of bruising and swelling are normal for the first couple of days up to a week. You might find smiling, talking and other facial movement difficult at first. We will prescribe pain medication to ease any discomfort during this period so that you can relax and heal. We strongly recommend a liquid diet during the initial recovery period to avoid tensing the sutures. You would be ready to go back to work within a couple of weeks and go back to exercising in about 2 months.
